According to IMF statistics, for the first time, it seems Spain has a higher GDP (PPP) per capita than Italy. Are Spaniards now wealthier than Italians?
There’s a first time for everything
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released figures in mid-April 2018 that confirmed Spain has overtaken Italy in terms of GDP per capita based on purchasing power parity (PPP). This is the first time this has happened according to the IMF. The International Monetary Fund found that the Spanish GDP per capita was $38,286 (€31,111), compared with $38,140 (€30,994) for Italians. It’s evident that there isn’t much of a difference between the two however Spain did come in higher than Italy.
